Sand Tray and Play Therapy

Sometimes things are difficult to explain with words. This is where sand tray work can be beneficial. Using sand, water, and miniature objects, clients can create scenes that reflect emotions, memories, relationships, conflicts, or parts of themselves that may feel difficult to access in traditional talk therapy.

For some people, it becomes easier to “see” what they have been carrying before they are able to fully talk about it.

Sandtray is helpful for people who:

  • Struggle putting experiences or emotions into words

  • Tend to stay stuck intellectualizing their thoughts

  • Process more visually, symbolically or creatively

  • Feel overwhelmed tyring to talk about painful experiences

  • Notice patterns but struggle to fully understand them.

Sand tray work may also be integrated with EMDR and other trauma-focused approaches to support deeper emotional processing, nervous system regulation, and connection to experiences that may feel difficult to access through words alone.
